Mission Statement
The San Diego State University Occasional Archaeological Papers (SOAP) provide a free and accessible conduit for research, analysis, and scholarship of San Diego archaeology and the work of San Diego archaeologists. Intended for a professional audience, the SOAP is published in both paper and electronic forms. It can be downloaded via a link at the SDSU Anthropology homepage.
This journal is dedicated to the dissemination of insight from archaeological investigations with a tie to San Diego County. It endeavors to provide both in-depth rigorous analyses and broad interpretive comparisons of past and current research and research issues of the region. Overall, the SOAP seeks analytical and interpretive expertise from informed points of view that contribute to a better understanding of San Diego, its archaeological record, and its archaeological community.
Beginning in 2005, the editor, assistant editor, and editorial advisory board of The San Diego State University Occasional Archaeological Papers consider for publication articles that engage topics relating to San Diego archaeology and San Diego archaeologists. Members of the Editorial Advisory Board and the editorial staff serve as the journal's jury, reviewing written submissions in a double-blind format. Anyone can make a submission to the SOAP.
The San Diego State University Occasional Archaeological Papers fluctuate
in content and format, with some volumes being an assortment of analytical
reports and others including interpretive discussions centered about a
common theme. The journal's flexibility is designed to encourage submissions
from a wide variety of disciplines and research interests that can broaden
and deepen insights into San Diego's past and the archaeology performed
by San Diego professionals.
